Ep 1. WWE No Way Out 2004 Review

Eddie Guerrero vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship, Kurt Angle vs. John Cena vs. Big Show, and more....

In the first episode of the brand new Retro Pro Wrestling Show, writer and life-long wrestling fan CJ Scholes takes a deep dive into WWE No Way Out 2004.

The final stop for the Smackdown brand on the road to Wrestlemania, No Way Out came live from The Cow Palace in Daly City, California and is best remembered for Eddie Guerrero’s historic WWE title win over Brock Lesnar.

In this show, you’ll hear about:

The Build to No Way Out

How this show was really the culmination of a series of events spanning all the way back to the 2003 Royal Rumble.

Wrestling as a Variety Show

Why not every match on every card has to be a five-star banger, and why I still enjoy some of the goofier aspects of ‘sports entertainment.’

The ‘Triple Threat’ Formula

Two people wrestle. Another takes a nap. Swap. Repeat.

It’s the standard WWE triple-threat match formula. This show weighs up the good and bad of this formula in the context of the number-one contenders match between Kurt Angle, John Cena, and The Big Show.

The Entire No Way Out 2004 Card

All of the above, plus:

  • A greeting from Tori Wilson

  • Did Bill Goldberg go to Alcatraz?

  • Tag Team Title Match - Rikishi & Scotty 2 Hotty vs. The Bashams & Shaniqua

  • Blindfold Match - Jamie Noble vs. Nidia

  • The World’s Greatest Tag Team vs. The APA

  • Hardcore Holly vs. Rhyno

  • Cruiserweight Title Match - Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero.
